Salmon Capital of the World
Salmon Fishing
For over a century, Campbell River has been touted as the Salmon Capital of the World. Every year, millions of migrating salmon travel through Discovery Passage on their way to spawn in their birth river. Whether you are an avid fisherman or a novice, come experience the thrill of pulling in a lively Pacific salmon.
Check out the BC Fishing Guide, then visit one of numerous charters in the area: CR Sport Fishing, Coastal Island Fishing Adventures, Tall-Tale Charters (see more Google results). Whether ocean, river or lake fishing is your passion, Campbell River is a sport fisher’s paradise.
The Passage View is a ten minute walk away from the Public Discovery Fishing Pier. Throw in a line and try to catch your dinner. If you don’t have any luck, you can always stop at Highline Fish Co. or Crabby Bob’s, grab some fresh seafood, bring it back to the motel to cook in your kitchenette room or on our guest barbeque. If you want fish and chips prepared by the experts, walk across the street from the pier to Dick’s Fish and Chips, or try one of the many Campbell River seafood restaurants.
You can fish Chinook, also known as Springs or King salmon year round. Fishing for other species of salmon is just as rewarding. There are different fishing seasons for each species of salmon: June to September is Coho (Silver) season; Sockeye and Pinks are prevalent mid-July through August, and then, during the month of October, it’s time to catch Chum.
